The Town of Kitty Hawk, in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), has announced the approval of a new sidewalk project aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety and accessibility throughout the community.
“This collaborative effort represents a significant investment in the town’s infrastructure, reflecting a shared commitment to improving walkability and promoting a healthier, more connected community,” stated the announcement.
The project will focus on the construction of a new sidewalk along the west side of US Highway 158 in Kitty Hawk, addressing areas with high pedestrian traffic and limited existing infrastructure.
The sidewalk will be constructed on the west side of the main highway from Cypress Knee Lane near WalMart extending to Jejac Street.
“Once completed, the new sidewalk will provide a safe and convenient pathway for residents and visitors,” stated the announcement.
Kitty Hawk Mayor Craig Garriss expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This is a major step forward for Kitty Hawk. By working together with NCDOT, we are making our town safer and more accessible for everyone. This sidewalk will not only improve connectivity but also enhance the overall quality of life in our community.”
The project will be jointly funded by the Town of Kitty Hawk and NCDOT. The project is expected to begin in the fall of 2025.
