Outer Banks Health has announced the winner of the 2024 Horizon Award for Advanced Practice Provider of the Year: Sarah Summerton, nurse practitioner at Outer Banks Health Family Medicine – Kitty Hawk.

The announcement of the award noted that Summerton “exemplifies compassion, integrity, and accountability. She takes extra time to listen and explain, and she is prompt with her follow-ups on questions and concerns. She stays current with her knowledge and puts forth best practice in her care.”

Summerton is currently pursing doctorate-level education while practicing full-time.

The announcement also noted that Summerton is “thorough, thoughtful, and genuinely cares about her patients. The attention she shows every person creates a rapport with patients that truly effects their well-being. She is a shining example of a wonderful care provider!”

The Horizon Award “recognizes the outstanding efforts and dedication of our providers who achieve our mission of enhancing the quality of life for the residents and visitors of Dare County,” stated the announcement. “The selection criteria included team member and patient experience, quality initiatives, leadership and mentoring, as well as community involvement.”

More than 42 nominations were received this year, according to Outer Banks Health.
