Classic screwball comedy comes to KDH on March 2

The Don & Catharine Bryan Cultural Series will present a special screening of the beloved 1972 screwball comedy What’s Up, Doc? as the third film in the Bryan Cultural Series Film Series. The screening will take place on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at 4 p.m. at R/C Kill Devil Hills Movies 10, located at 803 N Croatan Hwy. in Kill Devil Hills.

“This rare big-screen presentation of What’s Up, Doc? brings Peter Bogdanovich’s madcap comedy back to cinemas, where its rapid-fire dialogue and perfectly timed slapstick shine brightest,” noted the event announcement. “Starring Barbra Streisand and Ryan O’Neal, the film pays tribute to the fast-paced comedies of the 1930s and ’40s while delivering its own unforgettable moments – including what Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie has called ‘the finest car chase ever filmed.’”

About What’s Up, Doc?

A reserved musicologist (Ryan O’Neal) arrives in San Francisco with his overbearing fiancée, hoping to secure a prestigious research grant. But his plans go hilariously off the rails when he encounters a free-spirited young woman (Barbra Streisand) who upends his life in every possible way. Meanwhile, a wealthy socialite’s stolen jewels, a government whistle-blower’s top-secret papers, and four identical overnight bags lead to a series of mistaken identities, wild chases, and an uproarious courtroom showdown.

A box office hit upon release, What’s Up, Doc? became one of the highest-grossing films of 1972 and remains a comedy classic. The film won the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Comedy Screenplay and is ranked among the American Film Institute’s Top 100 Funniest Films of All Time.

“Don’t miss this big-screen comedy experience!” stated the announcement. “Classic comedies are best enjoyed in a theater, surrounded by laughter. Whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering What’s Up, Doc? for the first time, this is an afternoon of Hollywood hilarity you won’t want to miss.”
