The Fessenden Center gymnasium in Buxton will be closed for at least six weeks starting Monday, March 3, 2025. The facility’s roof and siding are being replaced.

Administrative offices located within the Fessenden Center will be open and operate normally during this time; however, all fitness classes scheduled to be held in the gymnasium will be moved to the activity room until the roof and siding replacement project is complete.

Pickleball play will still be available on the facility’s outdoor courts, which are open for use daily from dawn until 10 p.m.

While the roof and siding replacement project is underway at the Fessenden Center, patrons should also expect some closures to sections of the parking lot to occur. “The Dare County Parks and Recreation Department’s Hatteras Island Division appreciates the public’s patience and understanding as we work to improve the facilities for the community!” noted the closure announcement.
