Janice was born in her family home in Rodanthe, NC to a long and storied Midgett family lineage on Hatteras Island. As a young woman she enjoyed Westerns and dreamed of becoming a nurse, briefly working in an operating room before starting a family with her first husband, Michael Moher. A Navy wife, they traveled widely before Janice settled back in Waves to build a home and raise her family. Remarried to loving husband Butch, she was a staple in the local community and a Matriarch to her clan. In her later years she remained active in her local Rebekahs chapter, engaged in her church, and was an avid lover of Bingo.
Janice joins Parents Clarence Midgett Jr. and Lillian Payne Midgett, siblings Dennis, Aldean, Michael, C.E. and Cliff Dean, and late Husband Ira “Butch” Haines. She is survived by brother Steve Midgett, daughter Donna Covey, grandchildren Daniel and wife Gina, Erika and husband Nicholas, and Ms. Andrea Covey. Janice was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Chloe Covey. Son Joseph Moher of South Carolina also survives Mrs. Haines.
Janice was a beacon of truth and light and embodied the strength and fortitude of her watermen forbearers. She has moved on to her heavenly home to be at peace with the Lord and her many loved ones. A Celebration of Life will be held at Rodanthe Community Building on Saturday March 15th. Should friends desire, contributions may be sent to Donna Covey, PO Box 3538, Waves NC 27982.
