Laurie Seal, who serves as a customer service representative for the Dare County Water Department, has been named Dare County Employee of the Month for March 2025. The award was presented to Seal by Dare County Water Department customer service superintendent Jessica King during the Dare County Board of Commissioners meeting held Monday, March 3, 2025.

Seal’s service to Dare County began on February 18, 2013, when she was hired as a processing assistant for the Dare County Department of Health & Human Services. On September 28, 2015, she transferred to the Dare County Water Department, where she began serving as a customer service representative.

In her role as a customer service representative for the Dare County Water Department, Seal performs a wide variety of tasks that include assisting customers with any questions they may have regarding their water bill, collecting payments, responding to routine inquiries and/or concerns, generating new service orders, processing and updating completed service orders, notifying Dare County public utilities field personnel to make connections and disconnections, and informing personnel of any high priority items.

Seal is also responsible for establishing and closing accounts and other services as needed, processing tax payments, assisting customers with completing forms for making payments of utilities, accepting payments and applying them to the appropriate accounts, and entering new accounts into the system, as well as making any updates or changes to existing Dare County Water customer accounts as needed, among many other day-to-day duties and responsibilities.

As she began her Employee of the Month presentation, King praised Seal for the positive attitude she exhibits on a daily basis and also highlighted the fact that she consistently goes above and beyond for her colleagues at the Dare County Water Department, whether it’s by occasionally altering her schedule to accommodate the needs of her team members or providing them with a thoughtful and much-needed pick-me-up during or after a particularly challenging shift.

“Laurie Seal is an amazing part of the Water Department team,” said King. “She’s wonderful to work with, always coming to work with a positive attitude. She is flexible and willing to go out of her way for her work family, whether it is adjusting her work schedule, picking up a new project or bringing donuts to the plant operators after an unexpectedly long night.”

King also commented on Seal’s ability to provide an exceptional level of customer service to Dare County Water Department customers—answering any questions they may have about their bill or service and resolving any issues that occur with ease and professionalism.

“Not only is Laurie there to support her team; she also does this with her customers,” said King. “I have watched and listened to her, time and time again, patiently and positively help customers with anything they need, from a 10-second billing question to a much longer and more difficult issue. Laurie’s patience, care and positivity make our work environment better. It is a privilege to have such an honest, hardworking and charismatic person in our office!”
