College of The Albemarle’s Student Theatre (COAST) Players will present “Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812,” an electrifying musical by award-winning composer Dave Malloy. This critically acclaimed musical, inspired by a dramatic passage from Leo Tolstoy’s “War and Peace,” delivers a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience that blends romance, storytelling and electrifying music.

“Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812” follows young Natasha Rostova, who arrives in Moscow awaiting the return of her fiancé from war. However, she soon becomes entangled in a whirlwind romance with the charismatic Anatole. Meanwhile, the troubled and introspective Pierre, struggling to find purpose in his life, is thrust into Natasha’s crisis, leading to an unforgettable journey of love, redemption and self-discovery.

“This has been a passion project to work on, and I am so glad to be able to share this show as a first for our northeast North Carolina community,” said COA drama instructor and director Mary Elysse Santa. “With a dynamic cast and intimate staging, this production promises an unforgettable theatrical event. From sweeping ballads to raucous ensemble numbers, it is a feast for the senses that defies traditional musical conventions.”
