Five dollars and a dream: North Carolina man scores big win with scratch-off ticket

The North Carolina Education Lottery has reported a big win on a scratch-off ticket by a Craven County man.

Donald Booth, of Cove City, tried his luck on a $5 scratch-off last Monday and won a $150,000 top prize.

Booth purchased his lucky Xtreme Cashword ticket from Cove City Express on East Sunset Boulevard in Cove City.

He collected his prize at lottery headquarters Thursday, March 6 and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $107,626.

The Xtreme Cashword game debuted in October with six $150,000 top prizes. Three $150,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
