Sexual assault investigation leads to arrest

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has reported on the arrest of a local man for a sexually-based offense.

According to a March 4 news release from the SBI, on February 27, 2025, the agency was requested by the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office to assist with a sexual assault investigation.

“Following interviews and the execution of search warrants, evidence was collected that led to the identification of a suspect in the case. The investigation identified Paul Pellini, a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and Nurse Practitioner, as the suspect. Consequently, he was charged with one count of second-degree forcible rape,” stated the release.

During his initial appearance in court, Pellini was ordered to be held in the Currituck County Jail on a bond of $2 million. A judge also ordered him not to enter his practice without a law enforcement escort.

This case is currently active and ongoing, noted the release. Anyone who may have any additional information should to contact the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office at 252-453-3633.

The case has been referred to the New Hanover County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution, stated the release.
