The Southern Shores Police Department has reported the discovery of apparent human remains on a build site within the town.
On Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at 2:30 p.m., SSPD stated that “a contractor working at a residential build site was digging a trench to bury some drainpipe, when they uncovered what appears to be human body parts (several bones, partial skull).
“While this incident is still under investigation, we have no reason currently to suspect foul play at this location,” the SSPD news release continued.
Assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation forensic team has been requested and is en route to assist, as of Tuesday afternoon.
“It was on a site where an old house was torn down and a new one built,” stated SSPD Chief David Kole. Specific information about the location is not being shared at this time to keep the scene secure.
More information will reported as it is available.
