A local family, in conjunction with Blue Wave Support, has organized a dinner and a movie event in Manteo as a way to give back to first responders.

On June 1, 2024 Jake Gluba was seriously injured in a car accident in Nags Head. “Thanks to the skills of local first responders, he is alive and doing incredibly well today! As a way to try to give back we organized the following event, in conjunction with Blue Wave Support,” stated Jake’s father Andrew Gluba.

On April 1, 2025 the Blue Wave Support group is hosting a free dinner and a movie night for first responders and their families at Pioneer Theater in downtown Manteo. The movie – Break Every Chain – is being sponsored by Pro 1 Pest Control and Malarney & McCown PLLC. Dinner is being prepared by Carolina BBQ. Dinner starts at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Door prizes will also be presented.

On April 2, the movie is being shown to the general public at the Pioneer Theater at 7 p.m. with $1 of each ticket sold going to help cover the costs of the first responders. Tickets for the general public may be purchased ahead of time through the theater or at the door. First responders that couldn’t make it the first night are able to attend on the April 2 for no charge. Donations are being accepted for door prizes and to help cover the costs.

“The main purpose of the event is to give back to our first responders and bring awareness to mental health resources for them to process the things that they see, hear, and smell while serving the community. A show of support for those who take care of us, can make all the difference to them, especially when dealing with the atrocities they experience,” said Andrew.

“The movie is based on a book written by a current police sergeant from the Albemarle county police department in VA. It’s a true story about his struggle as a first responder and how he was able to get the necessary help to get back on track and continue working,” he continued. “The book quickly became a best seller and he was contacted by a company who then made it into a movie.”
