Two pedestrians pronounced dead on scene after being hit by car in Elizabeth City

An Elizabeth City woman is facing charges following a traffic incident that left two pedestrians dead.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, on March 30, 2025 at 6:49 a.m., the agency investigated a collision involving a single vehicle and two pedestrians.
Deborah Stevenson, 69, of Elizabeth City, was traveling north on New Rd. when she traveled across the centerline and collided into two pedestrians walking north in the southbound lane of New Rd., stated a Highway Patrol news release.
Pedestrians Roger Whidbee, 76, Aileen Whidbee, 62, both of Elizabeth City, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Stevenson was charged with two counts of misdemeanor death by vehicle and left of center.
