Trapped driver killed after vehicle hits tree, catches on fire

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol has reported a fatal collision in Beaufort County.

According to a State Highway Patrol news release, on April 1, 2025 at around 1:22 p.m., the the agency responded to a single vehicle collision on NC 306 near Sparrow Rd.

“A passenger car was traveling west on NC 306, traveled off the roadway to the right and collided into a tree. After the collision, the vehicle caught fire with the driver trapped in the vehicle,” stated the release. “The driver died at the scene and there were no other occupants in the vehicle.”

State Highway Patrol noted Wednesday morning it is waiting for the medical examiner to identify the remains of the driver. Once that is completed and the next of kin is notified, the name of the driver will be released.
