The Roanoke Island Garden Club recently approved grants to several community organizations as part of its philanthropic and educational mission. A grant was presented to Shirley Eyler on behalf of Amy Dough, Dare Challenge Women’s Center Garden Program. Presenting the award was Donna Presgrave of the club’s Annual Contributions Committee. The center staff look forward to using the grant for their greenhouse.
Grants were also made to Island Farm, Rotary Club’s Community Gardens, The Elizabethan Gardens, Food for Thought, Roanoke Island Food Pantry and Roanoke Island Woman’s Club for Thanksgiving baskets.
Club members are preparing for the organization’s Spring Plant/Yard Sale on April 12 from 9 a.m. to noon. The sale will be held at the Maritime Boat Museum downtown Manteo. Quentin and June Bell will be donating a number of plants for the sale.
“The sale will be a good opportunity to replace plants that did not survive the winter months and club members are looking forward to having lots of plants and yard sale items available,” noted organizers.
