Work will affect N.C. 168 this week

A company installing a utility underground plans to reinstate a lane closure on N.C. 168 southbound near Baxter Lane this week.

A natural gas line is being bored underneath the five-lane highway, requiring a contractor to close one southbound lane for much of last week. The work stopped Friday afternoon, when all lanes reopened.

The contractor planned to resume this work Tuesday and Wednesday, requiring the closure of one of two southbound lanes. The N.C. Department of Transportation is coordinating the closure to minimize traffic disruptions. However, drivers should expect potential delays and be alert going through this work zone next week.

This work has been complicated by the need to work around existing utility lines in this area and an adjacent railroad track.
