Tyrrell County Library has announced two special poetry workshops led by Vanessa Hunter, North Carolina’s Youth Poet Laureate, as part of the library’s celebration of National Poetry Month.
These engaging programs are designed to spark creativity and introduce young writers to the beauty and power of poetry in a fun, interactive environment.
Wednesday, April 16 at 1 p.m.
Skeleton to Skin: Build Your Own Poem!
In this hands-on workshop (ages 12-16), teens will discover how to bring a poem to life—starting with its bare bones and adding layers of creativity and expression. Participants will explore poetic structure, engage in writing exercises, and craft their own original work with tips from the NC Youth Poet Laureate herself.
Wednesday, April 16 at 2:30 p.m.
This session is designed especially for younger children (ages 6-11) to explore poetry through storytelling, rhythm and playful creativity. Vanessa will guide participants in using their imagination to express themselves through simple poetic forms and activities.
Both events are free to attend. RSVP suggested. Poetry books will be available for checkout to encourage continued exploration and inspiration at home.
“Join us for a day of creativity, expression, and poetic fun!” noted the library’s event announcement.
