Surfin’ Spoon INC has reported it is voluntarily recalling out of an abundance of caution all undeclared 5 oz. packages of their ice cream sandwich, The Classic, on March 16, 2025 because of an undeclared lecithin (soy) ingredient. These, The Classic packages, do not include “soy” in the ingredients list, nor list them as an allergen on the package. Lecithin contains trace amounts of soy protein, therefore, people who have a severe soy allergy may react if they consume this product, noted the recall announcement.
The Classic plastic package reads “The Classic” on a white background while the two sides of the 5 oz. package are clear, and the affected undeclared product can be identified by the Best By Date of 03-31-2025, 04-29-2025, 04-30-2025, 04-31-2025, 05-27-2025, 05-20-2025, 05-13-2025 and 05-12-2025, and the Production Codes of 3662024, 0292025, 0302025, 0312025, 0432025, 0442025, 0512025 and 0582025.
No illnesses have been reported to date.
The recall was initiated after an NCDA inspector discovered that Hershey’s Mini Chocolate Chips used in this product, contain lecithin (soy) which contains traces of soy protein. The inspector further discovered that Surfin’ Spoon overlooked this allergen in its list of ingredients and also failed to declare soy as an allergen on The Classic packaging. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a breakdown in Surfin’ Spoon INC’s production and packaging processes, stated the recall announcement.
Surfin’ Spoon INC distributed The Classic in North Carolina to retail store locations.
Consumers with a severe soy allergy who have purchased The Classic Surfin’ Spoon ice cream sandwich are urged not to consume this product and dispose of it or return it to their place of purchase for a full refund.
