The Dare County Youth Center on Roanoke Island extended gratitude to the community for its overwhelming support of the recent 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament fundraiser held on Saturday, March 8, 2025.

“The event was a tremendous success, bringing together players, families, and supporters to raise funds for supplies for the youth center’s operation,” noted a Dare County Health and Human Services news release.

With participation from 28 teams and numerous spectators, the tournament showcased not only the athletic talents of local youth, but also the spirit of camaraderie and community. “Thanks to the generous contributions and enthusiastic participation, we raised $2,350 to support the ongoing programs and initiatives at the Dare County Youth Center,” stated the release.

“We are incredibly thankful for the support we received from our community,” said Carolyn Norman Holadia, Youth Center coordinator. “The turnout at the tournament was fantastic, and it’s a testament to the commitment our community has to investing in our youth. Every dollar raised will directly benefit our program.”

Special thanks was expressed to volunteers, local businesses and sponsors who made the event possible. “Their dedication and generosity played a crucial role in the success of the tournament,” noted the release. “Additionally, we would like to recognize the players and their families for bringing their enthusiasm and sportsmanship to the court.”

Funds raised will be used to purchase supplies that will help maintain existing programs as well as offer new activities, ensuring that the Dare County Youth Center remains a safe and engaging environment for all young people in the community, the release continued.

“We look forward to hosting more events like this in the future,” added Holadia. “It’s events like these that not only raise funds but also strengthen the bonds within our community. Together, we are making a positive impact on the lives of our youth.”
