Hyde County man facing assault, drug charges following altercation at Dare County Detention Center

The Dare County Sheriff’s Office has reported on an incident involving an assault at the county’s detention center.
According to a DCSO news release, on April 16, 2025, a deputy with the Dare County Sheriff’s Office responded to an incident at the Dare County Detention Center involving an inmate who assaulted a detention officer.
“During the physical altercation, a small, clear plastic bag fell from the inmate’s clothing. Upon further investigation, the bag was found to contain an amount of cocaine along with other controlled substances,” stated the release.
Quadre D. Thomas, 30, of Fairfield, was charged with felony assault causing physical injury to detention employee, felony possession with intent to sell or distribute cocaine, felony possession of a controlled substance on jail premises, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor simple possession of a schedule II controlled substance.
“Thomas was issued a $60,000 secured bond in lieu of these charges,” stated the release.
