Wanchese man facing drug charges following Manns Harbor traffic stop

The Dare County Sheriff’s Office has reported the arrest of a Wanchese man on several drug charges following a traffic stop.

According to a DCSO news release, on April 28, 2025 at around 11 p.m., deputies assigned to the B-District of the Dare County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling on Old Manns Harbor Road.

“During the course of the stop, deputies developed probable cause to search the vehicle, leading to the seizure of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia,” stated the release.

Hunter R. Basnight, 28, from Wanchese, was arrested and charged with felony possession of a schedule VI controlled substance, felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance, misdemeanor driving while impaired, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia. On the magistrate’s order, the substances were identified as synthetic tetrahydrocannabinols (schedule VI) and cocaine (schedule II).

Basnight was issued a $30,000 secured bond, according to DCSO.
