Inmate escapes from Hyde Correctional

The search is on for an inmate who escaped from Hyde Correctional Center on Thursday.

According to the N.C. Department of Adult Correction, state correctional officers and law enforcement agencies “are seeking Francisco Cardenas #1430307, a minimum-custody offender who escaped today (May 1) from Hyde Correctional Center in Swan Quarter.”

Cardenas, 32, is described as a Native American male, 6 feet one inch tall and about 130 lbs. with brown eyes and a tattoo of a star on his left hand. He was convicted in Lee County and was serving a 5-to-8-year sentence for drug trafficking. He was scheduled for release in January 2029.
