Nags Head, NC – Linda Rae Scarborough, 71, of Nags Head, North Carolina born June 2, 1953, in Elizabeth City, NC; beloved daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and sissy to many, passed away at Chesapeake Regional Hospital on Monday, April 28, 2025. She left the world with the same grace and strength with which she lived her life.

Linda graduated from the College of The Albemarle with an Associate’s Degree. She worked at North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC, Burroughs Wellcome at Research Park in Durham, NC, and Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, NC. She was a medical assistant and a medical transcriptionist, lending her kind spirit and touching many lives in the healthcare industry.

Linda is survived by her two brothers, Theron Andrew Scarborough (Ellen) and Jimmy Ray Scarborough (Debbie). She is also survived by her niece Sarah Scarborough (Evans), their three sons Hunter, Holden, Hudson, and her nephew James’ son O’sage. Also left to cherish Linda’s memory are her former spouse and friend, Gary Hobbs, her many cousins and friends, and a special thanks to caregivers Aunt Joan, and cousins Sheryl Ann and Trish, who have loved and cared for Linda over the years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ada C. Scarborough and Ray L. Scarborough, her niece, Jenny Scarborough, and her nephew, James Scarborough.

Linda graced the world with her presence, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who knew her. Linda’s steadfast faith and gentle spirit touched the lives of many. She was a shining example of grace, compassion, and devotion, and her presence was a blessing to those around her. Though she faced many health challenges over the years, Linda remained remarkably positive and steadfast in her belief, always eager to share the love of God with others.

At Peak Resources, the place she called home, Linda became a beacon of light and hope to fellow residents. Her commitment to sharing her faith was evident in the weekly Bible study she lovingly led, offering encouragement, fellowship, and spiritual nourishment to all who joined her. Her warmth, kindness, and unshakable faith will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and service lives on in the hearts of those she touched. Her family would like to express their sincerest gratitude for the amazing care provided by the staff at Peak Resources to Linda. Linda appreciated their friendship and care. She made many long-lasting relationships with students who visited the facility and members of the staff.

A celebration of Linda’s life will be held Sunday, May 4, 2025, at 3 p.m. at Austin Cemetery. Pastor Scott Hobbs of Liberty Christian Fellowship will be officiating the celebration of life. Pastor Roger Barnett will also be sharing words of comfort. Following the service, family and friends are invited to Jimmy and Debbie’s house for food and fellowship.
