The white ibis is a social bird. It’s not uncommon to see five, 10 or more in shallow water or poking their long, curved bills into moist grassy fields, like these on the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, noted USFWS.
In the fields and grasses, ibis search for worms, grubs and insects. In shallow water they search for small fish, crayfish, crabs and marine worms.
