“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” — Proverbs 31:28 (NIV)
There are so many moments—almost daily—when my thoughts turn to my mother, Helen. She went home to glory a few years ago, and though her final years were filled with challenges, I carry no regrets. I know in my heart that I did all I could to care for her in ways that honored her life and brought her comfort. Because of that, my memories are sweet. She made me laugh—she had such a vibrant spirit, often laced with a little spice! I feel truly blessed to have had her as my mother. She wasn’t perfect, but then again, none of us are. Still, there was wisdom to be gained in every experience we shared. God was teaching, even in the quiet moments.
Now, as a mother myself, I look back on my own journey with a full heart. Raising my daughter and son came with many trials and plenty of moments that stretched my patience and strength. But today, I stand in awe of who they’ve become. I see the fruit of those years—the love, the lessons, and the grace that carried us through.
Motherhood has taught me more about God’s love than perhaps anything else. His grace sustained me when I was weary. His patience showed me how to keep showing up, even on the hard days. And His joy? I see it reflected in the lives of my children.
This verse today echoes in my spirit this Mother’s Day. The legacy of a mother isn’t found in perfection, but in the love she gives, the faith she holds, and the lives she touches along the way.
