Congressman Don Davis included the Food Bank of the Albemarle on his “Meeting Residents Where They Are” tour on Wednesday, April 23. Davis traveled through North Carolina’s first district to hear from residents about how Washington, D.C. policies are impacting them, noted a news release from Food Bank of the Albemarle.

“As so many families continue to struggle to put food on the table, the Food Bank of the Albemarle stands as a vital ally against hunger. Witnessing the dedication, passion, and commitment of the staff and volunteers was remarkable,” said Davis. “Through their dedicated efforts, they provide essential food and resources and foster hope.”

Davis met with Food Bank executive director Liz Reasoner, as well as Food Bank board members, staff and volunteers. Discussion centered on key programs like the Teaching Kitchen and Neighborhood Hub Food Pantry, and the recent cuts of USDA food, comprising 38% of food that the Food Bank distributes.

“We are honored to have Congressman Davis visit Food Bank of the Albemarle and see first-hand the work that the food bank and our network of 100 partners are doing in Northeastern North Carolina,” said Reasoner. “We extend the invitation to each of our elected officials who represent our region and state to visit the Food Bank and see the impact.”

Davis represents North Carolina’s 1st Congressional District, including 12 of the 15 counties the Food Bank serves: Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Gates, Hertford, Martin, Northampton, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Tyrrell and Washington counties.

The towns and cities Davis visited during the “Meeting Residents Where They Are” tour  included Rocky Mount, Manson, Warrenton, Halifax, a Grange, Spring Hope, Hollister, Wilson, Elizabeth City and Hertford.
