Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

By Mike Caton

Exodus 39:1, “From the blue, purple and scarlet yarn they made woven garments for ministering in the sanctuary. They also made sacred garments for Aaron, as the LORD commanded Moses.”

Not only is the tabernacle itself a spectacular place, but the ones who serve there are made amazing and glorious garments to wear. There was nothing like the tabernacle, and the people who came to serve there needed to be reminded of their special nature as well. God has chosen the Levites out of all the Israelites to serve in the tabernacle, and more specifically the descendants of Aaron to serve as priests. These men were set apart as well.

The materials used in the making of these garments were special. Even though people have always loved colorful clothes, dying those clothes was an extra step and an extra expense. But there is no expense too great for God. And we ought to realize God is always worthy of our extra effort. It is probably safe to say there were no other garments exactly like these, either. And so it would serve as another reminder of the fact that God had set these men apart for their special tasks.

I think about how often we are told in the New Testament to clothe ourselves with righteousness, to clothe ourselves with Christ, to put on the full armor of God. Obviously those different passages have different things in mind, the armor is clearly for our protection. But we have to make a decision to put on the garments that will set us apart as God’s people. We need to realize the roles we are called to play. We have to be different from the world.

Father, help me wear you well today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
