Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Exodus 39:32, 42-43, “So all the work on the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, was completed. The Israelites did everything just as the LORD commanded Moses … The Israelites had done all the work just as the LORD had commanded Moses. Moses inspected the work and saw that they had done it just as the LORD had commanded. So Moses blessed them.”

Finally, all the work is done for the tabernacle and all its furnishings. Commentators think it took between six and nine months for all the tabernacle to be completed. And now they bring all of the different parts together for Moses to inspect. The verses that are not included are simply an inventory of all the different parts and pieces; the tent and the frames, all of the furnishings including the altars, tables, lampstand, the ark of the covenant, as well as the garments they made for Aaron and his sons. It is all brought to Moses to make sure it was made just as the Lord had commanded.

And it all was. When you think about the massiveness of this project, the weight of the precious metals, the amount of weaving for the curtains, the intricate designs in both the metal and the cloth, it is an amazing task. And sometimes, when we have such huge projects, we are tempted to cut corners, to skip a few details, to just get the job done. And sure, there might be areas of our job that no one else sees, but that doesn’t mean those things are unimportant. In fact, it is often the little things that make the biggest difference. And if you are showing the proper attention to the little things, the unseen things, the rest of the project will take care of itself.

Maybe we need to stop and examine ourselves a little more closely and a little more often. It is so easy to get caught in a rut, and we most often think of that as a bad thing. But sometimes we can get so used to doing the good things that we don’t do them very well anymore. And that can be a bad thing. So, we need to examine ourselves, not just the what we are doing, but the why, and the how, and the effort we are putting into those things.

Father, help me pass your inspection. In Jesus’ name, amen.
