Salvo, NC – Earl Cunningham Whidbee, 93, of Salvo, NC, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

Born on January 12, 1932, in Salvo, NC, he was the son of the late Melvina Gray Whidbee and William Edgar Whidbee.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Burtis Hooper; sisters, Velma Anderson (Coy) and Irene Midgett; brother, Kendall Whidbee (Grace); and niece, Shirley Ann Whidbee.

Earl is survived by his loving sister, Jean Whidbee Hooper; and numerous nieces and nephews: Hilda Clifton (Jimmy), Kenny Hooper (Kathy), Sheila Stephenson (Jim), Larry Midgett (Roberta), Alberta Cox (Jack), Patricia Midgett, Charles Anderson (Carol), Carolyn Dye (Ron, deceased), William Whidbee (Lisa), Sherry Burke (Dave), and Reid Basnight (Mary Ann, deceased). He is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews, as well as his dear friend, Polly Moffett, who he enjoyed going to lunch with.

Throughout his life, Earl worked in many places. In his younger years, he was employed in Manteo, NC; Ohio; New Jersey; and Virginia. After retiring, he continued working at Rose’s in Nags Head, NC, and later at K-Mart in Kill Devil Hills, NC.

Earl was a dedicated member of Clarks Bethel Methodist Church, where he played the piano for many years, continuing until just a few months before his health began to decline.

He will be truly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Clarks Bethel Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Earl’s memory may be made to Clarks Bethel Methodist Church, PO Box 28, Salvo, NC 27972.
