To the Editor

There is an overwhelming tornado of news, deportations without due process, Canada-51st state, Suez Canal back to US, Gulf of America, beautiful huge tariffs, vaccines-bad, cut and cut some more, tax breaks for the richest, and on and on. Some things like charging stations are bound to be overlooked.

Like it or not electric vehicles (EVs) are the wave of the future. Ultimately their power will be supplied by the renewable energy resources of hydroelectric dams, solar panels and wind turbines. The oil industry and oil producing states and countries don’t like that. They want to maintain the status quo with gas and diesel power.

During the Biden administration 8,000 charging stations were installed and operational at various federal buildings. These stations charged all the new federally owned electric vehicles (EVs) and were also available for federal employees to rent to charge their own personal EVs. I’m using the past tense because the Donald J. Trump administration has declared that “all GSA (General Services Administration)-owned charging stations are not mission-critical.” “Neither Government Owned Vehicles nor Privately Owned Vehicles will be able to charge at these charging stations once they are out of service.”

Not having the charging stations shouldn’t be a problem for the federal government because they are also “looking to offload all the new government owned electric vehicles (EVs).” I’m sure these vehicles will be sold at a significant loss.

They are shutting down efficient equipment that is place, functioning well and yielding income for our government.

We, the taxpayers, paid to have the 8,000 charging stations installed. We, the taxpayers, are paying to have those same charging stations shut down and removed. We, the taxpayers, paid for those new electric vehicles which will now be sold at a loss. Then in a few years, we, the taxpayers will have to pay to have new charging stations reinstalled in the same spots as the charging stations they are now shutting down and removing. Also in a few years, we, the taxpayers, will pay for more brand new EVs to replace the current new EVs they are getting rid of.

Please explain to me how this is government efficiency.
