The gymnasium located inside the Fessenden Center at 46830 NC 12 in Buxton has reopened as of Thursday, May 22, 2025.

The Fessenden Center’s online calendar has been updated to include scheduled gym activities for May 2025.

The Fessenden Center gymnasium was closed from Monday, March 3, 2025 to Wednesday, May 21, 2025 while the facility’s roof and siding were replaced and new interior lighting was installed. “This project is part of Dare County’s ongoing efforts to renovate and improve outdated Parks and Recreation Department facilities throughout the county in order to better serve members of the community,” states a Dare County media release.

On the exterior of the facility, reassembly of the railing and deck work are still underway, with an expected completion date of Thursday, June 5, 2025. Until further notice, access to the rear dock is not available.
