The Roanoke Island Historical Association (RIHA) has announced that the 88th Season of The Lost Colony, presented by PNC Bank, will begin May 29 and runs through August 23, 2025.
“I’m really inspired by the amazing 2025 company, who are bringing The Lost Colony to life in a really magical way,” said Jeff Whiting, director and choreographer. “It’s a remarkable group of talented individuals who are finding a really fresh approach to this important historical work. I can’t wait for audiences to witness this exciting company in person!”
Sponsored by Midgett Insurance, Dare Nights – which historically have been performances that Outer Banks locals may attend for free with donations to local food pantries – will take place on May 29 and May 30. “Make plans to arrive early to drop off donation items and receive your free tickets,” noted the RIHA announcement.
Donations made May 29 will support The Roanoke Island Food Pantry, while donations made May 30 will support The Beach Food Pantry.
“Please check your canned goods and refrain from bringing expired food items,” stated the announcement.
Residents from Dare, Tyrrell, Currituck and Hyde counties will receive free admission to Dare Nights with proof of ID. Dare Nights are also open to the public.

“Every year at The Lost Colony is a new production and this year is no different, and no less exciting. We have eight new leading roles, and we continue to fine tune the new production,” said Chuck Still, executive director. “Every summer is fresh and a great time to come back to the Waterside Theatre.”
Also returning for a fourth year is the popular free Native American Pre-Show, performed by indigenous members of the cast on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday nights.
The Lost Colony’s 88th season begins May 29 and runs through August 23, 2025. The show begins at 8:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday at Waterside Theatre on Roanoke Island. Tickets start at $25. First staged in 1937, The Lost Colony is the nation’s premier and longest-running outdoor symphonic drama. For more information, go to thelostcolony.org or call 252-473-6000.
