The new Trinitie/Juniper Trail bridge is now open to all traffic.
The Town of Southern Shores awarded the $1,667,178.70 contract to Smith Rowe, LLC from Mt. Airy on November 4, 2024, with substantial completion of work to take 210 days. The road was closed on December 9, 2024, and the job was completed in 199 days and is expected to come in at or below the contract cost. Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., designed and engineered the bridge.
The new core slab bridge replaces a culvert that had been replaced and repaired multiple times.
The bridge will become part of the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s bridge inspection program.
“The Town would like to thank all the residents, particularly those in close proximity to the bridge, for their patience during construction,” stated a Town of Southern Shores news release.
“We understand the inconvenience this project caused by detouring traffic during construction, and we are thankful to have this project behind us. We are extremely pleased with the new bridge as a long-term, safe solution to the previous driving conditions the culvert created,” said Mayor Elizabeth Morey.
The Town of Southern Shores also expressed thanks to the NC DOT Division One/District One engineers for assisting with construction oversight and inspections.
