Kill Devil Hills house fire results in heavy damage to structure, injury to firefighter

A Sunday afternoon house fire in Kill Devil Hills resulted in injury to a firefighter and significant damage to the structure.
According to a news release from the Kill Devil Hills Fire Department, on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at 3:05 p.m., KDHFD responded to a structure fire in the 300 block of West Arch Street.
“The fire originated on the front deck of the home and spread inside, causing significant fire and water damage. The ground floor also sustained smoke and water damage. Firefighters worked to contain the fire to the second floor,” stated the release.
One Kill Devil Hills firefighter was injured and transported to The Outer Banks Hospital for treatment. All occupants of the house safely evacuated.
“The firefighter was admitted to the hospital for medical care; however, their condition is stable. Out of respect for their privacy, we will not be releasing any additional information regarding their injuries,” stated Rachel Tackett, public information officer for the Town of Kill Devil Hills.
“The entire Kill Devil Hills family stands united in sending our coworker positive thoughts and prayers for a full and swift recovery.”
Fire crews from Colington and Kitty Hawk assisted in the operation, and the Kill Devil Hills Police Department and Dare County EMS were on scene to provide support.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Kill Devil Hills fire marshal.
