Dare County Sheriff’s Office issues May blotter

The Dare County Sheriff’s Office blotter posted felonies from May 1–May 31, 2025 in the unincorporated areas of Dare County, are listed, totaling 13 crimes.

May 2: Breaking and Entering. 100 block of Pine Cone Trail, Colington. While the victim was incarcerated, two suspects stole household items and cash from the victim’s home. Under investigation.

Obtaining Property by False Pretenses. 30 block of Beverly Dr., Wanchese. Suspect put a stop payment on a $13,000 check used to pay for work done to a boat. Under investigation.

May 5: Obtaining Property by False Pretenses. 41000 block of Breeches Buoy Lane, Avon. Unauthorized transactions attempted on the victim’s bank account.

May 9: Breaking and Entering Motor Vehicle. 100 block of Baum Bay Dr., Colington. Backpack, computer and other items stolen from an unlocked vehicle. Upon further investigation the suspect was identified and arrested.

May 10: Breaking and Entering and Larceny. 40000 block of North End Rd., Avon. Bicycle stolen from driveway and tools stolen from the residence.

May 11: Larceny. 23000 block of NC 12, Rodanthe. Boat and trailer stolen. Upon further investigation the boat and trailer were located and recovered out of state. Suspect was identified and arrested.

May 14: Forgery and Uttering. 47000 block of Buxton Back Rd., Buxton. Checks forged and uttered on a bank account. Under investigation.

Obtaining Property by False Pretenses. 100 block of Lake Ct., Colington. Victim sent scammers $3,600 in Bitcoin as part of an Amazon Prime scam.

Exploit Elder. 1000 block of Harbour View Dr., Colington. Family of a deceased person discovered the deceased had sent scammers approximately $50,000 – $80,000 prior to their death. Under investigation.

May 21: Financial Credit Card Fraud. 800 block of Francis Drake St., Roanoke Island. Financial cards taken and used without authorization. Under investigation.

May 29: Larceny. 48000 block of NC 12, Buxton. Artwork reported stolen as part of a civil dispute. Under investigation.

May 30: Obtaining Property by False Pretenses. 57000 block of Altona Lane, Hatteras. Fraudulent checks issued on a business account.

Obtaining Property by False Pretenses. 41000 block of NC 12, Avon. Unauthorized bank transactions.
