Dr. Robert Marc Jung, 88, passed away in Houston, Texas, on June 5, 2025.
Dr. Jung or Bob was born on January 1, 1937, in East Orange, New Jersey, to Earnest G. Jung (of Solingen, Germany) and Elizabeth Wolf Jung. He grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey, where his father and uncle founded and operated Jung Brothers Contracting. He met his wife, Catherine Climenko, at Tufts University and they both graduated in 1958. They married in 1959 and Bob graduated from Tufts Medical School in 1962. He completed residencies with the US Navy, the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, the Albany Medical Center and the Shriners Hospital. He was Chief of Orthopedics at the Submarine Medical Center in New London (1967-1969) and Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albany (1970-1971).
After teaching briefly at Albany Medical Center, Bob moved his family to Old Mystic, Connecticut, in 1973 to be close to the water that he loved. He and Cathie became fond of the area during his time at the Submarine Medical Center. He practiced Orthopedic Surgery at New London’s Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for over 30 years where he was Chief of Orthopedics from 1988-2004. Former patients still talk about the profound impact he had on the quality of their lives.
Bob was most happy either when able to help his patients (including friends, family, and community members) or when on the water. In his free time, he could be seen on the “Bobcat” off the Long Island Sound or in more southern waters after retiring to Manteo, North Carolina, where he lived for 15 years before moving to Houston in January 2024.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Climenko Jung, his children Marc, Curt (Suzanne), Britt (Tre), as well as his grandchildren Max, Sam and Zoe, all of Houston. He is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Anita Crewson. His nieces, Laura and Nancy, live in New Hampshire.
We want to thank the staff of Bluebonnet Hospice Services, particularly Fenita, Diane, and Mary, as well as the staff from the Gardens of Bellaire, for their support and care.
A memorial service will be held at Bethany Church in Wanchese, North Carolina, at 3 p.m. on August 9th.
