Colington house fire displaces three

An afternoon blaze on June 18, 2025 displaced a family of three on Mybet Court in Colington.

Around 1:25 p.m., calls were received for a house on fire. Colington firefighters arrived minutes later to find a three-story house with heavy smoke and fire on the rear of the home, according to Colington Volunteer Fire Department Chief Glenn Rainey.

The house was occupied by a father and daughter at the time of the blaze, and they were able to safely escape.

Firefighters from Colington, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head and Southern Shores worked together to control the fire, but damage was extensive. Dare County EMS also assisted.

The fire is under investigation by the Dare County fire marshal’s office and the American Red Cross is assisting the family. A GoFundMe has also been set up to assist the family.
