Buxton and Frisco Volunteer Fire Departments assist Cape Hatteras National Seashore rangers with controlling wildfire

A wildfire was reported at Cape Hatteras National Seashore (Seashore) in Frisco at 4:26 Friday afternoon. The fire was estimated to be more than one acre in size and burning in the back-dune vegetation approximately 1/8 mile north of Ramp 48 between the Inside Road and beachfront.

Seashore rangers responded with support from the Buxton and Frisco Volunteer Fire Departments to extinguish the fire. Seashore Superintendent David Hallac stated: “We appreciate the professional support from our local volunteer fire departments in extinguishing the fire to reduce the risk to other areas of the Seashore and the surrounding community.”

The cause of the fire is unknown and an investigation is underway. No additional details are available at this time.
