Winning week for MHS sports

It’s been a winning week for  Manteo High School sports. The schedule opened October 1 with the varsity tennis team sweeping its way to a 9-0 win over Gates County High School at Gatesville. After knocking in five first half goals, along with four more in the second half, the Redskins varsity soccer team coasted to an identical 9-0 winning score in Hertford for Monday’s conference game over Perquimans County.

Also playing at Gatesville on Monday, the JV volleyball team fell 2-0 to the Red Barons with identical 25-20 scores, followed by a 3-0 varsity Redskins victory where Manteo dropped Gates 25-19, 25-18 and 25-13.

On Tuesday, Manteo was back in the winner’s circle with the JV volleyball team picking up a 2-1 win over a visiting Gates County team followed by a 3-0 conference victory in the varsity volleyball match.

Mid-week action saw Manteo grab two more wins on Wednesday when the JV soccer team defeated John A. Holmes 3-1 and the varsity soccer squad won its conference game at the Edenton school with a 7-1 score.

Thursday proved to be a little less successful for Manteo when the JV volleyball team lost to Camden County 2-0 followed by a 3-0 conference match loss in the varsity volleyball match.

The Redskins managed to finish on a winning note Thursday, however, when a varsity tennis team edging out Gates County 5-4 for a conference match win at Gatesville.
