Winnie O’Connor

Winifred Ann O’Connor, 82, of Point Harbor, NC was called to her heavenly Lord on Thursday, January 31, 2019. Winnie was born on August 15, 1936 in Philipsburg, Pa., grew up in Janesville with her brother and mother and attended Moshannon Valley High School. She moved to Washington, DC to work for the FBI where she met her late husband Daniel O’Connor. Winnie and Dan shared a wonderful life with their family and friends. They both loved to golf and travel. She was a long-time resident of the Outer Banks and Point Harbor, NC, having moved here with Dan in 1982. They were members of Duck Woods Country Club and the Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church. Winnie belonged to the Duck Woods Country Club Women’s Association. Winnie was an amazing mother to her girls and grandmother to her grandchildren and was loved deeply by all those that knew her because of her sweet nature. She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her children, Vickie O’Connor, Valerie Hawekotte and her husband Jay, and Verena O’Connor; grandchildren, Lindsay Hawekotte and Daniel Hawekotte and spouse Michael Vazquez.  Winnie was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel O’Connor; father, Charles Wesley Garbinsky; mother, Georgeanna Granville Garbinsky Chenchark; stepfather, Michael “Mickey” Chenchark; and brother, Ronald Garbinsky.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Ken Robinson officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. Twiford Funeral Home, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC is assisting the O’Connor family.
