Dennis Lee Newbern

Born on Sept. 10, 1960, Dennis Newbern died on February 22. He is survived by his  com-panion, Kelly Haggard; his mother, Patricia (Patsy) Walker Smith and stepfather Wibur Smith of Bells Island; brother, Danny Newbern, his wife Lisa of Powell’s Point and their daughters Kristin of Powell’s Point and Julie of WVA, brother, Andy Newbern and companion Andrea Midyette of Jarvisburg; daughter, Erica Givans and son-in-law Neil Givans of Aydlett; daughter, Andrea Newbern of Powell’s Point;  son,  John Hunter Newbern of Grandy;  and his grandchildren Gavin and Marlo Newbern of Powell’s Point and Eli and Adelia Givans of Aydlett; and many others.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in his honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105-1942 or to NC Wildlife Resources Education Programs, c/o NC Wildlife Resources Commission, 1702 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC  27699-1702.

  A graveside service was held on Tuesday, February 27 at the Jarvis Family Cemetery, Jarvisburg. Twiford Funeral Home, Elizabeth City, assisted the Newbern family.  Online memorial condolences may be sent to the family at www.TwifordFH.com.
