Ludie Belle Sykes

MANTEO, NC ¬- Ludie Belle Sykes, well known as “Lute Dute” and “Toodles” died on March 8, 2018.

   She was born on November 2, 1914 in Manteo to the late Arvilla Collins-Golden and John Ebron, and lived to the age of 103 years old.

Though Ludie had no biological children, her nieces and nephews were like her own.  She aided in raising many family members and other children from the community.

Ludie is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Sykes; two brothers, Randolph Ebron and Jasper Ebron; three sisters, Olivia Ebron, Ruebell Ebron, and Eula Mackey; a special niece Gwendolyn Mackey; and dear friend, James Sawyer.

  She leaves many to cherish her memory, including one nephew, Jasper Scarborough (Valerie) of Fayetteville, NC; three nieces, Teresa Saunders, of Manteo, NC; Barbara-Jean Whitaker, of Brooklyn, NY; and Tashia Tillett of Columbia, MD; six great-nephews Randolph Mackey, Jasper Mackey, Eric Meekins, Jerome Meekins, Jason Beale, and Brian Scarborough; five great-nieces Angela White-Davis, Nichelle Zaidieh, Gwendolyn Meekins, Sherron White, and LaKisha Hill; a very special cousin, Tina Tran; dear friends Joyce and Earnest Campbell, and Essie Brown; and a great host of great-great nieces/nephews, cousins, and friends.

  The family is receiving those who wish to express their condolences at Ludie’s home, located in Manteo.

Services will be held Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Haven Creek Baptist Church located at 611 Sir Walter Raleigh Street, Manteo.   

Interment at the Haven Creek Baptist Church Cemetery will follow the funeral. The repast will take place at the Lions Club at 1000 Wescott Park Road, Manteo.
