JAMESVILLE, NC – Rufus Herbert Simmons, 82, of Jamesville, died Thursday, March 15, at Ridgewood Manor in Washington.

Born January 19, 1936 in Milton, Florida he was the son of the late Herbert Simmons and Myrtle Collins Simmons and was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Jacqualine Ellis Simmons. Rufus served in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired after twenty years’ service. He was a Vietnam Veteran and member of Siloam United Methodist Church.

His family includes his daughter, Rene’ L. Simmons and husband Stanley of Jamesville, N.C.; sons, Rufus A. Simmons and wife Stacey of Hickory, N.C., Ramsey H. Simmons and wife Becky of Madison, GA., Randy L. Simmons and wife Susan of Wake Forest, N.C. and Ross K. Simmons and wife Pam of Greenville, N.C.; twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Funeral service were planned for Saturday, March 17 at Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth with Larris Tolson officiating. Burial followed in the Jamesville Cemetery. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.maitland funeral home.com.
