A Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge prescribed burn is scheduled for Wednesday, March 28.
The planned burn will be in the southernmost end of Pea Island, adjacent to the village of Rodanthe.
Preparations for the burn were made earlier this year by mowing and widening the fuel break at the end of the refuge, mowing under the power lines and creating disked lines along the Rodanthe border and the power lines.
The fire burn plan expects to burn between 130 and 320 acres.
For the burn to occur, the forecast weather should call for steady northeast winds, which would keep smoke off of NC 12.
