Dare County school officials say classes will continue on schedule today, but after-school activities are canceled with wind advisories and possible flooding expected this afternoon.

The National Weather Service has issued wind and high surf advisories through late tonight as a low pressure system moves across the Mid-Atlantic.

A wind advisory is in effect from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.  for all of the Outer Banks, including Hyde County and counties, with sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts up to 40 mph.

Gusts will blow around unsecured objects and could bring down tree limbs and cause some power outages, the NWS says.

Along with wind and rain, rough surf is developing, with a high surf advisory in effect from 5 a.m. Tuesday to 2 a.m. Wednesday in Dare and Hyde counties.

The weather service says minor oceanside flooding is possible today, particularly along NC 12.
