Fire ripped through a single-family home on Ralph Lane in Wanchese Wednesday evening, bringing firefighters from as far away as Kill Devil Hills and Manns Harbor.
The call went out at 5:47 p.m. with crews arriving to find the house well involved in flames, and the kitchen completely engulfed, fire officials said. No one was inside the house at the time.
Commanders called for a second alarm, bringing fire crews from Nags Head, Manns Harbor, Kill Devil Hills and Colington.
No one was injured.
The cause of the fire, which appears to have started in the kitchen, is under investigation.
