Mildred Lee Tharrington, 87, a former resident of Portsmouth, Virginia, died Saturday, June 30, 2018 in Kill Devil Hills.

She was born on Feb. 12, 1931 in Nash County to the late Sidney and Catherine Tharrington. Mildred retired from JCPenney in Chesapeake Square Mall and was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church in Portsmouth.

Surviving her is her daughter, Gail Lawrenson (Rick) of Kitty Hawk; two sons, K. Garland Ballentine, Jr. and Barry O. Ballentine; a sister, Andrea Ponton; a brother, Ronald Tharrington; three grandchildren, Nathan Lawrenson, Sarah Moore and Rachel Sanchez; and four great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 5, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Portsmouth, Virginia. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel is handling these arrangements.
