Sonia West Byrum, 83, of Avon, died in Nags Head on Sunday July 8, 2018. She was the daughter of the late Emment and Polly McKenzie and the mother of the late George West, JR.

Sonia was born in Norfolk, Virginia and married her childhood sweetheart George West, Sr.

Sonia’s survivors include her three daughters, Ida (Mike) Kasper of the Avon residence, Joyce (Lew) Byrd of Standardsville, Virginia, and Linda (Bert) Nurney of Smithfield, Virginia; and one son, Butch (Freida) West of Manteo, as well as other loving relatives.

The family will hold a memorial service at St. John’s Methodist Church in Avon, Thursday July 12, at 11 a.m. Pastor Gina Miller will officiate.

Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.
