Rare visitor comes to Pea Island
You won’t find the Curlew sandpiper listed in most concise regional U.S. birding guides.
Well-known in Europe and Asia, this shorebird makes occasional appearances along the U.S. Atlantic Coast, as it did in August on Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge.
It’s a medium-sized sandpiper getting its name from the long, curved beak.
