Currituck schools operating on two-hour delay; sound flooding possible

Currituck public schools will open two hours late Monday due to flooding reporting on multiple roadways, .

School officials said they will assess road conditions again early Monday.

A coastal flood advisory is in effect for the Currituck, Albemarle and Pamlico sounds and adjacent rivers due to elevated water levels. Nuisance flooding is expected in low-lying areas, the National Weather Service said.

The combined effects of heavy rain, storm surge, and persistent easterly winds are preventing drainage, forecasters said.

Dare County schools remain closed to students Monday, with plans to reopen Tuesday.
