Richard Wayne Wingate, 85, of Kitty Hawk died Thursday, October 4 at Peak Resources – Outer Banks.

Born in Baltimore, Md. on February 8, 1933, he was the son of the late Harriett Weitzel and Nathaniel Wingate.

A Korean War veteran, he served his country honorably in the United States Army’s 82^nd Airborne Division. He would later retire as an accountant.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Wingate, who died October 1.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Betty Ann Gorsuch Wingate; daughter Kathleen Wingate (Michael Warnstedt); son Douglas Wingate (Alicia); grandchildren Jonathan and Cara Wingate, Stephen, Christen, and Lauren Limberopoulos: two great-grandchildren and sister Beverly Karzak.

A memorial service for Wayne and his daughter Susan will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 3 at Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo.
